Iran Warns of ‘Catastrophic’ Fallout Amid US Truce Dispute; Indian Sailor Killed Near Hormuz
Fresh problems have come up in the Iran-US conflict. This is because Tehran says Washington did not follow a ceasefire agreement. Tehran is upset about activity near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran says if the United States keeps doing this it could be very bad for the region and the world.
Irans person in charge at the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani wrote a letter to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the UN Security Council. He said the United States broke the ceasefire by attacking oil tankers and targets near the coast. Iranian media says the United States hit two tankers near Jask Port and did strikes near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran says if the US Navy does things in the Persian Gulf it could make the whole region unstable and threaten world peace. Tehran wants the United Nations to say that the United States is doing wrong by having actions and blockades.
The Strait of Hormuz is an important place for oil to be shipped. One-fifth of the worlds crude oil and gas goes through it. The conflict and fighting in the region have already made oil prices go up and have disrupted shipping routes.
Something sad happened to an Indian cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz. A sailor from India died when a boat carrying cargo caught fire and sank near the Strait of Hormuz on Friday. Seventeen other Indian crew members were saved by another ship. The people in charge are still trying to figure out what caused the fire.
Government people said the boat had 18 crew members on it when the fire happened. The fire happened when Iran and the United States were having problems in the Gulf region.. The people in charge do not know yet if the fire was related to the fighting.
This has made international shipping companies and sailors very worried. Some ships have been. Attacked since the conflict got worse earlier this year. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has slowed down a lot because of security concerns and blockades.
Meanwhile US President Donald Trump said the United States is still waiting for Irans response to an agreement that could end the conflict. Even though both sides have said things about each other and done limited strikes American officials say the ceasefire is still in place.
The whole world is watching what is happening in the Gulf. They are worried that if the ceasefire ends completely it could start a war, in the region and a very bad energy crisis. The Iran-US conflict is still a problem. The Strait of Hormuz is still an important place. The Iran-US conflict could affect the world.
