Zelensky to Unveil 'Victory Plan' to Biden Amid Kursk Incursion and New Military Developments
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that he will present a detailed “victory plan” to U.S. President Joe Biden next month, which he believes is crucial for Ukraine’s ongoing conflict with Russia. Speaking at a forum on Tuesday, Zelensky emphasized the importance of this plan, stating its success hinges on U.S. support and the flexibility to implement it effectively.
The Ukrainian leader’s announcement comes on the heels of a significant military maneuver by Ukrainian forces. In early August, Ukrainian troops conducted an incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, an operation that has reportedly succeeded in capturing territory and disrupting Russian defensive efforts. According to General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukraine now controls approximately 1,294 square kilometers (500 square miles) of Russian territory, including 100 settlements. However, these figures have not yet been independently verified.
Zelensky indicated that the incursion into Kursk was part of a broader strategic effort to divert Russian attention from Ukraine’s eastern front, where intense fighting continues as Russia seeks to capture the town of Pokrovsk, a strategic hub with vital railway connections. The Ukrainian President also revealed that Ukraine has successfully tested a domestically-produced ballistic missile. Zelensky’s upcoming meeting with President Biden, as well as his intention to present the plan to both U.S. presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, underscores the high stakes for Ukraine in securing continued Western support.
