West Ham United Owner David Sullivan Slashes Price of Historic London Mansion by £10 Million
David Sullivan, the chairman of West Ham United Football Club, has reduced the asking price of his stunning London mansion by £10 million, bringing it down to £65 million. The 21,000-square-foot property in Marylebone boasts beautiful Georgian architecture, luxurious amenities, and a rich history.
A Pricey Project
Sullivan purchased the historic townhouse for £27 million in 2015 and invested nearly £50 million in renovations, totaling around £75 million. “I’m selling it at a loss now, but you have to be realistic,” he explained, acknowledging the challenging real estate market.
According to property experts, high-end homes in London, especially those priced above £30 million, have struggled to sell. Last year, only ten homes in that price range changed hands, compared to 38 the previous year.
Timing the Market
With interest rates high and concerns over potential tax changes for wealthy residents, Sullivan is aware that he might not be selling at the best time. Many affluent individuals are reportedly considering leaving London for tax-friendly locales like Monaco or Dubai.
“I just fell in love with the property,” Sullivan said of his initial purchase. Once a “dilapidated, beautiful monstrosity,” the house was renovated over seven years and is now one of the most magnificent residences in the city.
A Grand History
Before Sullivan bought it, the mansion had a notorious past, owned by convicted fraudster Edward “Fast Eddie” Davenport, who hosted wild parties filled with celebrities. The house has also appeared in films like The King’s Speech and Amy Winehouse’s Rehab music video.
Sullivan’s renovation included modern upgrades while preserving its historic charm. The home features a grand staircase, a wellness suite with a pool and gym, and a stunning commercial kitchen capable of hosting large events.
Unique Features
Entering the home, visitors are greeted by ornate Georgian detailing and a grand dining room concealed behind a hydraulic wall—a nod to the mansion’s history. The lower floor boasts a luxurious wellness suite, complete with a hot tub, sauna, and even a juice bar.
On the top floor, there’s a bar and roof terrace with breathtaking views of BT Tower, while the principal bedroom features two walk-in closets and elegant marble bathrooms.
Ready to Move On
Sullivan, now 75, expresses his desire to sell the property, stating, “I have other things to do with my life.” He’s proud of what he’s accomplished with the mansion and is eager to pass it on.
“I’m being practical,” he concluded. “There’s no point in waiting for a higher price. I’m ready to get it off the books.”
