Weki Meki Announces Disbandment After Seven Years; Five Members Depart Fantagio
After seven years of activity, the K-pop girl group Weki Meki has officially disbanded. On August 16, Fantagio confirmed that Weki Meki’s activities concluded as of August 8, 2024, following preliminary hints of the disbandment earlier in June.
Fantagio’s announcement detailed that Ji Suyeon, Choi Yoojung, and Kim Doyeon are currently in negotiations to renew their contracts, while Elly, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy will be departing from the agency after their contracts end. The agency expressed deep appreciation to all fans for their support throughout Weki Meki’s journey and conveyed heartfelt thanks to the departing members.
In their statement, Fantagio highlighted that after careful discussion with the group, the decision was made to end Weki Meki’s official activities. The agency also assured ongoing support for the future endeavors of Elly, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy, and encouraged fans to continue their support as the members explore new opportunities.
Weki Meki debuted on August 8, 2017, with their extended play “Weme,” which featured the lead single “I Don’t Like Your Girlfriend.” The EP was a commercial success, selling over 47,000 copies and marking it as the highest-selling debut album by a girl group in 2017.
Their final release, “CoinciDestiny,” a digital single that dropped in June, is an electronic pop track celebrating the group’s journey and their connection with fans. The song reflects the members’ affection for each other and their supporters, encapsulating their shared experiences as a meaningful twist of fate.
Fans and the agency alike are bidding farewell to Weki Meki with gratitude and anticipation for the members’ future projects.
