UEFA Denies 2027 Champions League Final to Milan's San Siro Amid Renovation Concerns

UEFA has decided that the iconic Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, commonly known as San Siro, will not host the Champions League final in 2027. The decision follows the city’s inability to guarantee the stadium’s availability during planned renovations, which are set to occur between the 2026 Winter Olympics and the 2032 European Championship.

UEFA had extended the deadline for Milan to confirm the stadium’s status, but city authorities failed to provide the necessary assurances. As a result, UEFA’s executive committee has opted to re-open the bidding process for a new venue for the prestigious final.

The future of San Siro has been uncertain since it last hosted the Champions League final in 2016, with looming plans for demolition. Both AC Milan and Inter Milan, the stadium’s shared tenants, have proposed plans for their own new stadiums.

UEFA aims to finalize the location for the 2027 final by June. The upcoming Champions League finals are scheduled to take place at Bayern Munich’s stadium and the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
