Taobao Waives $142 Million in Delivery Fees for Hong Kong Shoppers
Taobao is waiving delivery fees for Hong Kong users on orders over 99 yuan, setting aside one billion yuan (approximately US$142 million) for this initiative during the fourth quarter.
Running for three months, the campaign includes categories like fashion accessories, electronics, and skincare, coinciding with Alibaba’s peak sales season, according to C.K. Chan, head of Hong Kong and Macau operations for Tmall Taobao World.
While specific revenue or user targets were not disclosed, both Chan and Ye Jianqiu, general manager of Tmall Taobao World, emphasized enhancing the customer experience in Hong Kong.
This promotional effort comes in response to increased competition in the Hong Kong market, particularly from Pinduoduo, which has tailored its delivery and payment options for local consumers since 2022.
