Second Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump: Suspect Arrested After Gunshots at Florida Golf Course
Former US President Donald Trump survived a second assassination attempt on Sunday while golfing at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The incident, which saw gunshots fired in Trump’s vicinity, has prompted an ongoing investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
According to the FBI, Trump was unharmed in the attack. “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time,” said Steven Cheung, Trump Campaign Communications Director, in a brief statement.
The latest threat comes after an earlier attack on July 13, when Trump was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. That incident, which resulted in a bullet grazing Trump’s ear, led to a significant political shift as Democratic President Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race, allowing Vice President Kamala Harris to become the party’s nominee.
On Sunday, the situation escalated when Secret Service agents spotted a suspect with an AK-47 near the golf course. Law enforcement officials identified the arrested individual as Ryan Wesley Routh, who allegedly pointed a rifle with a scope into the golf club. Agents opened fire on Routh, who has since been taken into custody. The Trump Campaign headquarters, located on the same campus, was placed on lockdown as a precaution.
The White House has been briefed on the incident. “The President and Vice President have been briefed about the security incident at the Trump International Golf Course. They are relieved to know that he is safe and will be kept regularly updated by their team,” said a White House spokesperson.
In a message to his supporters, Trump reassured the public of his safety and resilience. “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!” Trump declared.
Senator Lindsey Graham also offered support after speaking with Trump, praising his strength and resolve. “Just spoke with President Trump. He is one of the strongest people I’ve ever known. He’s in good spirits and he is more resolved than ever to save our country,” Graham said.
The FBI continues to investigate the attempted assassination, with initial reports suggesting that the shots were intended for Trump. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working to determine the full scope of the threat and ensure the safety of all involved.
