Russian President Vladimir Putin has pledged “unwavering” support for Iran while congratulating Mojtaba Khamenei on his appointment as the country’s new supreme leader. The message from Moscow signals strong backing for Tehran at a time of rising geopolitical tensions and ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
According to the Kremlin, Putin sent a formal message to Mojtaba Khamenei shortly after the Iranian clerical leadership confirmed his appointment. In the message, the Russian leader expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would continue to strengthen and emphasized Russia’s commitment to maintaining strategic cooperation with Iran.
