OpenAI announced on Thursday that its chatbot, ChatGPT, has reached over 200 million weekly active users, a significant increase from the 100 million reported last fall. Launched in 2022, ChatGPT has become a key driver of AI’s popularity, contributing to a dramatic rise in OpenAI’s valuation.
The company highlighted that 92% of Fortune 500 firms are now utilizing its products, with the use of its automated Application Programming Interface (API) doubling since the introduction of GPT-4o mini in July. This cost-effective, smaller AI model is designed to be more affordable and energy-efficient, broadening OpenAI’s customer base.
In addition to this milestone, OpenAI and Anthropic have secured contracts with the U.S. government for AI research and evaluation, according to the U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute. Reports also indicate that Apple and Nvidia are in discussions to invest in OpenAI, potentially pushing the company’s valuation above $100 billion.
