In an intense showdown, Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers emerged as the overtime hero, scoring the deciding goal against the Boston Bruins, resulting in a close 2-1 victory on Tuesday evening. The win marked the Oilers’ fifth in a row.

Equalizing the score at 1-1 late in the third period, Draisaitl found the back of the net for his 31st season goal with just 1:20 minutes remaining. The game culminated with his stunning one-timer, assisted by Connor McDavid, a mere 2:18 into overtime.

Edmonton imposed a defensive stranglehold on Boston, limiting their shots to five in the third period and allowing none during the overtime play.

Goaltender Stuart Skinner played a vital role in the win, saving 25 shots for the Oilers. Evan Bouchard added two assists to the victory, while McDavid provided two assists as well, extending his impressive point streak to 12 games.

The Bruins faced displeasure from the home crowd, exiting the ice to boos as their home record slipped to 19-7-6.

Pavel Zacha had put Boston in the lead with a goal early in the third period, coming from a robust one-time shot on a pass from Danton Heinen.

Although Bruins’ goaltender Linus Ullmark stopped 24 shots, it wasn’t enough to hold back the Oilers’ late-game surge.

Edmonton missed a close chance to secure the win during the final seconds of the regular time, only to be thwarted by Ullmark in a critical save against Warren Foegele.

McDavid’s outing was noteworthy as well, managing a shot against Ullmark late in the third, despite close coverage by Trent Frederic. McDavid’s point streak is highlighted by two goals and 26 assists.

Skinner stayed alert through the second period, saving a series of shots including a notable one-timer from David Pastrnak.

Ullmark had key moments, like his save during Edmonton’s power-play chance in the second period, managing to stop McDavid from a rebound attempt near the crease. McDavid later snapped a quick shot, which Ullmark skillfully caught with his glove.

The night was also a milestone for Boston’s James Van Riemsdyk, who played his 1,000th career game. The Bruins are planning a pregame ceremony on March 16, coinciding with the game against the Philadelphia Flyers, the team that picked Van Riemsdyk second overall in the 2007 draft.
