Baylor Scheierman scored 26 points and Ryan Kalkbrenner added 19 as No. 12 Creighton pulled away to defeat No. 5 Marquette, 89-75, in a Big East matchup on Saturday in Omaha.
The Golden Eagles, who entered the day in second place in the Big East, were playing without star guard Tyler Kolek and starting forward Oso Ighodaro. Kolek, the reigning Big East Player of the Year, was out with an oblique injury and did not travel with the team. Ighodaro missed the game due to an illness.
With the victory, Creighton improved to 22-8 overall, 13-6 in conference play. Marquette dropped to 22-6 overall, 13-5 in the Big East.
Kolek entered Saturday averaging 15.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and a team-leading 7.6 assists per game, while Ighodaro is averaging 14 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
The Bluejays are now 14-2 in home games and have won seven of their last 10 games overall. The Golden Eagles have won eight of their last 10.
Marquette has two more regular-season games, and Creighton has one, before the Big East Tournament begins on March 13.
