Michelle Yeoh’s ‘The Brothers Sun’ Not Renewed for Second Season – Sky Bulletin

Netflix has decided not to renew The Brothers Sun, a crime dramedy that featured Michelle Yeoh, for a second season, as reported by Deadline.

In The Brothers Sun, Yeoh, who is recognized for her Oscar-winning performance, portrayed Eileen Sun, the head of a prominent Taiwanese crime family. The plot revolved around her assassin son, Charles (played by Justin Chien), who came back to Los Angeles with an aim to defend his family after his father’s death.

The official synopsis highlighted the story’s stakes: With various deadly factions vying for dominance, the Sun family had to navigate treacherous waters to understand what family and brotherhood meant, amidst the danger of being eliminated by their enemies.

Co-created by Brad Falchuk (known for Glee and American Horror Story) and Byron Wu, with Falchuk as the showrunner, the series only had a single eight-episode season that premiered this past January. Audience response was highly positive, with TVLine readers awarding the season high grades, including “A”s for both the pilot and finale.

Despite a strong start on the Nielsen streaming charts, where it initially placed fourth with 700 million minutes viewed, viewership declined over the following weeks, leading to its disappearance from the rankings.

The cancellation of The Brothers Sun adds it to a growing list of Netflix shows that have recently been discontinued, such as Obliterated, Shadow and Bone, and several others over the past months.
