Kamala Harris Sets Record with $540 Million Fundraising Surge After DNC

Vice President Kamala Harris has shattered fundraising records with an impressive $540 million raised in just over a month since announcing her presidential campaign. The significant financial boost includes $82 million garnered during the Democratic National Convention last week, reflecting a surge in support for her candidacy.

According to a memo from Harris’s campaign manager, Jen O’Malley Dillon, the record-breaking total was achieved just before Harris delivered her acceptance speech on Thursday night. The campaign saw its highest fundraising hour immediately following the speech, underscoring a surge in Democratic enthusiasm.

O’Malley Dillon highlighted that nearly one-third of the contributions during convention week came from first-time donors, with a significant portion being young voters and women—key demographics Harris aims to mobilize for the November election.

In addition to the fundraising success, the Harris campaign has reported a boost in volunteer support, with nearly 200,000 volunteer shifts filled during convention week.

Harris, who officially became a presidential candidate on July 21 after President Joe Biden stepped down amid concerns about his age, has gained momentum that puts her in a strong position against her Republican rival, Donald Trump. While Trump’s campaign has also been robust, raising $138.7 million in July, Harris’s recent fundraising surpasses his early efforts.

This week, Harris and her vice presidential running mate, Tim Walz, will embark on a bus tour through Georgia, aiming to solidify support in a crucial battleground state as the campaign heats up for the November 5 election.
