The impressive track record of John Cena in the pro wrestling sphere spans over twenty years, a period during which he has worked with numerous wrestling greats. Of particular interest is his supportive stance towards MJF, the ex-AEW World Heavyweight Champion. Following a friendly exchange the previous year, Cena is on record sharing his thoughts about how terrific it would be for MJF to make the switch to WWE.
A red carpet event was organized to celebrate the global launch of ‘The Iron Claw,’ and it featured appearances from both MJF and some prominent faces from WWE. During this event, MJF and WWE legend John Cena had the opportunity to engage in a meaningful conversation.
John Cena delved into the specifics of his discussion with MJF during an episode on Insight With Chris Van Vliet. He admitted that his sense of loyalty to WWE in previous years would have prevented such interactions with talent from other promotions.
Now, Cena sees the importance of competition and holds a more inclusive view, acknowledging that being associated with a different brand doesn’t negate one’s abilities as a performer. He praised MJF for his professionalism and left a positive impression from their interaction at the film premiere.
“The entire encounter made me realize that I’ve shifted my mindset. In the past, I would have avoided associating with him due to my strong ties to WWE. I’m still all about WWE, but I’ve come to appreciate the value of competition. And it doesn’t mean you’re less skilled just because you’re not with the company I represent.”
”The business of sports entertainment is unpredictable. You never know when you’ll be part of a memorable moment. MJF is one of AEW’s top talents, and while I was there to support a friend at their movie premiere, I didn’t know if that would put me in the spotlight. But he was downright polite and professional.”
”After introductions, I had to step away briefly. When I returned, I quickly approached him to say, ‘My apologies for earlier, I had preconceived notions about you that were proven wrong today. Your professionalism is commendable, and you made my experience even more enjoyable. Thank you for that.’
Cena also broached the subject of MJF potentially joining WWE, praising his professionalism and admitting he saw great potential and class in the young wrestler.
”Later, I could converse more with him and hinted at him joining our side in the future. I’m struck by his professional conduct, and it would be wrong to overlook his good work in the industry. I was genuinely impressed by his class and dedication.”
”At a wrestling movie premiere, it would have been easy for him to seize the moment for exposure. Instead, we created a moment that caught the internet’s attention. Encountering this professional and ambitious young man, I hoped, maybe we’ll see him with us someday – and that’d be tremendous.”
MJF, on his part, has also commented on what occurred during their discussion. However, whether or not he will make the transition to WWE, a move that would certainly delight Cena, remains to be seen.
