The comedy world recently bid farewell to one of its luminaries, Richard Lewis. In his memory, the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm, in which Lewis frequently appeared, honored him with a poignant memorial title card at the start of the Sunday episode.

The screen displayed a heartfelt photo of Richard Lewis, along with his birth and death years, 1947-2024. (The tribute can be seen below.)

Fans should note that the episode titled “Fish Stuck” did not mark Lewis’ final appearance on Curb, as was confirmed by TVLine.

The news of Lewis’ passing surfaced on Wednesday following a statement by his publicist, Jeff Abraham, which was shared with TVLine: “Richard Lewis passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles last night after suffering a heart attack,” the statement read. Lewis’ wife, Joyce Lapinsky, appreciates all the love and support and requests privacy during this difficult time.

Lewis had been open about his health struggles, including his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease last April. Fortunately, he received this diagnosis later in life, and with medication and slow disease progression, he faced it with positivity.

Following the news of his death, Larry David, Lewis’ long-time friend and collaborator, expressed his heartache: “For most of my life he’s been like a brother to me,” said David. Lewis’ humor and kindness left a profound impact on those who knew him, though his recent death brought unexpected tears to David’s eyes.

HBO mourned the passing of a comedic genius in its own statement: “His comedic brilliance, wit and talent were unmatched. Richard will always be a cherished member of the HBO and Curb Your Enthusiasm families,” the statement read, extending heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and fans.
