Great Britain Secures Three Golds on Final Day of Paris 2024 Paralympics Track Cycling

Great Britain concluded the track cycling events at the Paris 2024 Paralympics with a spectacular performance, clinching five medals including three golds on the last day.

The mixed team sprint trio of Kadeena Cox, Jaco van Gass, and Jody Cundy dominated their final, outpacing Spain to secure gold. Earlier, James Ball triumphed over teammate Neil Fachie in the men’s B 1000m time trial, reversing the result from Tokyo 2020. In the women’s B 3000m pursuit, Sophie Unwin and pilot Jenny Holl set a new world record in qualifying before winning gold against the Irish pair, Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal.

The day saw GB rise to the top of the track cycling medal table with a total of five golds and 14 medals overall. The golds were achieved in rapid succession, highlighting the team’s prowess.

Cox’s victory was particularly sweet after a challenging start to the Games, overcoming a previous mishap and personal hurdles to achieve her fifth Paralympic gold. Cundy extended his remarkable streak, having now medaled in every Games since 1996, while Van Gass, recovering from a car accident, earned his second gold in Paris.

Ball and Fachie delivered a British one-two in the men’s B 1000m time trial, with Ball overcoming a slow start to take the gold. Unwin and Holl’s gold in the women’s B 3000m pursuit underscored their dominance, achieving their goals set after last year’s World Championships. The day’s events concluded with emotional celebrations as GB’s athletes reflected on their hard-earned success.
