Gen AI Will Supercharge Indian Jobs & Startups – Find Out How

Gen AI Will Create More Jobs in India, Not Take Them Away: Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran

Why Generative AI is a Boon for India's Workforce and Entrepreneurs

Generative AI (Gen AI) is often seen as a threat to jobs, but Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran believes otherwise. Speaking at the Mumbai Tech Week on February 28, he emphasized that AI adoption will actually increase job opportunities in India while significantly boosting productivity.

"Contrary to all apprehensions, Gen AI adoption will serve as a net job creator for India," said Chandrasekaran.

While some routine jobs may be replaced, he argued that AI will assist low-skilled workers in enhancing their efficiency rather than replacing them. This, in turn, will lead to a rise in overall employment rather than job losses.

How Gen AI Will Drive Entrepreneurship in India

One of the most exciting prospects of Gen AI is its ability to empower entrepreneurs. According to Chandrasekaran, AI will reduce the need for large teams, making it easier for individuals with innovative ideas to launch businesses with fewer resources.

"Any entrepreneurship in this country, apart from software startups, has always required a huge amount of talent. Gen AI will enable every person with an idea to start a business with very few people," he explained.

This means more startups, greater innovation, and economic growth fueled by AI-driven businesses.

Tata Group's Vision for an 'India AI Stack'

Chandrasekaran also stressed the need for India to develop its own AI infrastructure—an "India AI stack"—to make the most of this technological revolution. He outlined four key pillars for building this AI stack:

1. Foundational Layer

This will include secure computing infrastructure and data repositories to support AI innovation in India.

2. Capability Layer

This involves the development of AI models, developer tools, and frameworks to leverage the foundational layer effectively.

3. Application Layer

This layer will focus on AI-driven solutions for businesses, government services, and various industries.

4. Governance Layer

To ensure ethical AI usage, this layer will define policies, regulations, and guidelines that align with India's values and priorities.

AI: Disrupting Work, Not Eliminating Jobs

Chandrasekaran’s views align with those of TCS CEO K Krithivasan, who recently stated that while AI will change how certain engineering roles function, it won’t completely replace human workers. Instead, AI will be a tool that helps professionals become more efficient and productive.

AI as a Job Creator, Not a Job Killer

As AI continues to evolve, its role in India's workforce will be transformational. While certain job roles may change, new opportunities will emerge, making AI a net positive for employment. Additionally, AI will unlock entrepreneurial potential, enabling more people to turn their ideas into successful ventures with minimal resources.

With a strong AI infrastructure in place, India can lead the global AI revolution while ensuring job growth and economic prosperity.
