Dolphins Must Explore Trade Options for Russell Wilson After QB Injuries
The Miami Dolphins’ quarterback situation has plunged from bad to nightmarish following their loss to the Seattle Seahawks. With Tua Tagovailoa recovering from a concussion and backup Skylar Thompson sidelined in the second half, Tim Boyle was thrust into the spotlight.
Boyle’s track record is troubling; since college, he’s thrown just 16 touchdown passes, with 38 interceptions to his name. Despite these alarming stats, he’s managed to sign with six different NFL teams, including the Dolphins. If Thompson is unavailable, Miami will have to decide between Boyle and newly signed Tyler Huntley before their upcoming Monday Night Football game against the Tennessee Titans.
Rather than risk their season with this subpar quarterback situation, the Dolphins should seriously consider trading for a capable QB who has fallen out of favor in his current team. One option could be Russell Wilson of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who has shown signs of resurgence after winning his first three games.
Continuing with Boyle as the starter would be akin to intentionally losing games. A potential QB competition between Thompson and Huntley isn’t exactly a recipe for success for a team aiming for a playoff run in a competitive AFC.
While Wilson has seen better days since his prime in Seattle, even a diminished version of him would outperform the current options. With Tagovailoa’s future uncertain, the Dolphins can’t afford to simply wait for better luck next season. Acquiring Wilson could not only stabilize the offense but also provide a solid backup plan moving forward.
If Tagovailoa and Thompson struggle to finish the season, the Dolphins risk entering the third year under Mike McDaniel without a playoff win. Instead of holding on for dear life until Tua returns, proactively pursuing Wilson could be the key to salvaging the season.
