Dani Carvajal Faces Surgery After Serious Injury in Real Madrid's Victory
Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal is set for surgery following a “serious” cruciate ligament injury sustained during the team’s 2-0 triumph over Villarreal at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. The 32-year-old right-back was visibly in pain after a collision with Villarreal’s Yeremy Pino in added time, leading to him being stretchered off the field in tears.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Carvajal confirmed the extent of his injury, stating, “Serious cruciate ligament injury confirmed. I’m going to have to go through surgery and be off the field for a few months. Already looking forward to starting recovery and coming back like a beast.”
Manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed the team’s concern, saying the squad was “sad” and “worried” about Carvajal’s condition. He noted the challenging nature of the current football calendar, which often leads to such injuries, especially to key players.
Real Madrid’s official statement revealed that Carvajal suffered multiple injuries, including a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and collateral ligament, alongside a ruptured popliteus tendon in his right leg. His surgery is scheduled for the “coming days.”
Adding to Real Madrid’s woes, Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior also sustained a “cervical injury,” which will be closely monitored.
Despite the injury news, Real Madrid maintained their impressive form on the pitch. They secured victory with goals from Federico Valverde and Vinicius Junior, keeping their unbeaten La Liga streak alive at 41 matches (30 wins, 11 draws). This run is the second longest in the league’s history, just behind Barcelona’s record of 43 games.
The win positions Real Madrid level on points with their arch-rivals Barcelona at the top of the table, although Barcelona could take a three-point lead if they win against Alaves on Sunday.
As the team prepares for the upcoming challenges, Carvajal’s recovery will be a significant focus for both the player and the club.
