This decision comes on the heels of a challenging season for the team, which finished with a disappointing 13-27 record and failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

Despite the promising addition of star rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, the Sky struggled to find their footing throughout the season. The team’s failure to qualify for the postseason marked a significant setback after their championship victory in 2021. The upcoming coaching change will be the fourth for the Sky in recent years, highlighting ongoing instability within the franchise.

Angel Reese, who had an impressive rookie season averaging a league-record 13.1 rebounds per game, expressed her dismay at Weatherspoon’s dismissal.
