Caitlin Clark Breaks WNBA Record for Fastest 300 Assists in Fever's Overtime Win

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark reached a significant WNBA milestone on Sunday, becoming the fastest player in league history to achieve 300 career assists. Clark’s remarkable performance was pivotal in her team’s 104-100 overtime victory against the Atlanta Dream.

The 22-year-old guard delivered a double-double with 26 points and 12 assists, along with five rebounds, marking her 14th double-double of the season—a new franchise record. Her impressive display included four three-pointers, bringing her season total to 111 and extending her rookie record set in late August.

Clark’s performance highlighted a notable night for recent WNBA No. 1 draft picks. Aliyah Boston, the 2023 top pick, led the Fever with a career-high 30 points and 13 rebounds. Rhyne Howard, the 2022 No. 1 pick for the Dream, scored 36 points in a standout performance.

Despite facing challenges, including 12 turnovers by halftime and a 16-point deficit in the third quarter, the Fever rallied with an 18-5 run to close the gap. The team continued to battle, with Boston’s layup off Clark’s 10th assist tying the game at 90 with 18 seconds remaining.

In overtime, Clark’s two crucial free throws secured the win for Indiana, improving their season record to 19-17 and clinching a playoff spot for the first time since 2016.

“The crowd was amazing and helped us get it done,” Clark said postgame. “We just kept chipping away and got stops when we needed to.”

The defeat hurt Atlanta Dream’s playoff hopes, leaving them at 12-23 and out of the playoff picture, one game behind the Chicago Sky. Tina Charles and Jordin Canada each contributed 17 points for the Dream, while Allisha Gray added 15.
