Apple's New AI-Enhanced Table-Top Robot: A Look Ahead to 2027

Apple is forging ahead with ambitious plans to revolutionize smart home technology by developing a cutting-edge table-top robotic device, according to a Bloomberg report. The device, internally codenamed J595, represents a significant leap forward for Apple’s smart home ecosystem and is expected to launch between 2026 and 2027.

The new device will feature an iPad-like screen mounted on a robotic arm capable of moving and repositioning the display. This innovative setup aims to serve as a comprehensive smart home command center and video conferencing tool, enhancing user interaction with voice commands and automated adjustments. The robotic arm will allow the display to tilt and spin 360 degrees, ensuring optimal visibility and functionality.

Apple’s Vice President of Technology, Kevin Lynch, known for his previous work on the self-driving car project, is spearheading the development of this new device. The project, which received internal approval in 2022, will run on a customized version of iPadOS and is expected to be controlled by an advanced iteration of Siri, incorporating features from Apple Intelligence.

The device will be equipped to respond to voice commands such as “Look at Me,” enabling it to adjust the display’s orientation toward the speaker. This level of interaction highlights Apple’s commitment to integrating more sophisticated AI capabilities into its smart home products.

In addition to the table-top robot, Apple is reportedly exploring other smart home innovations. These include robotic devices designed to move around the user’s house and potentially a humanoid version of the smart robot. This exploration is led by Hanns Wolfram Tappeiner, a robotics expert, with the support of over 100 engineers previously involved in the Apple Car project.

Beyond these developments, Apple is also delving into augmented reality (AR) glasses and a new version of AirPods with built-in cameras and AI features. These initiatives underscore Apple’s broader strategy to expand its influence in the smart home and wearable technology markets, positioning itself at the forefront of technological innovation.

As Apple continues to develop and refine these technologies, the anticipated table-top robot and other smart home products are expected to further cement the company’s role as a leader in the tech industry.
