"Angel Reese Sets WNBA Single-Season Rebounding Record Despite Chicago Sky’s 79-74 Loss to Lynx"
Angel Reese has etched her name in WNBA history as the single-season rebounding leader, despite the Chicago Sky’s 79-74 defeat to the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. Reese achieved this milestone with eight games remaining in the regular season, finishing the game with 17 points and 19 rebounds for her 24th double-double, a rookie record.
With a total of 418 rebounds, Reese surpassed Sylvia Fowles’ previous record of 404 rebounds set in 2018. She also set a new record for offensive rebounds, totaling 165 and surpassing Yolanda Griffiths’ mark of 162 from 2001. Reese and A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces are the only players this season to record at least four games with both 15 or more points and 15 or more rebounds.
The Lynx were led by Courtney Williams, who scored 22 points, tying her season high. Kayla McBride added 17 points, and Napheesa Collier contributed 15 points for Minnesota (24-9), which had a six-game winning streak interrupted by a recent loss to Dallas. The Lynx are now 8-1 since the Olympic break.
Chicago (11-21) is on a six-game losing streak and has fallen into a tie with Atlanta for the final playoff spot after the Dream’s win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday. Kamilla Cardoso led the Sky with a career-high 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting, adding nine rebounds, while Michaela Onyenwere scored 15 points.
In the game, Collier and Williams helped the Lynx build an early lead with a 14-4 run, and Minnesota never trailed. The Sky rallied with an 11-2 run to start the fourth quarter, tying the game at 62. However, Williams’ back-to-back jumpers within 24 seconds secured the win for the Lynx.
