The Mayo Clinic explains that Cushing Syndrome is the result of the body’s extended overproduction of cortisol, which is a hormone related to stress.
This condition is often identified by a collection of symptoms including “a fatty hump between the shoulders, a rounded face, and pink or purple stretch marks on the skin.” It can also lead to high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and type 2 diabetes.
In an interview for Jessica Yellin‘s News Not Noise newsletter, Amy opened up about her health journey.
She expressed the fear and stress of undergoing medical tests while being in the spotlight, saying, “I was in MRI machines four hours at a time and having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn, thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up. So finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I’m healthy was the greatest news imaginable.”
Amy also discussed the impact of public criticism on her mental health and her determination to advocate for women’s health issues.
“I want so much for women to love themselves and be relentless when fighting for their own health in a system that usually doesn’t believe them,” she emphasized. She ended her message by encouraging kindness and understanding as everyone faces their unique challenges.
In other news, Amy Schumer also recently mentioned her no-longer-in-production project, the Barbie movie.
